Enamelling - Application of Vitreous Enamel
In this course students will acquire the skills and knowledge to apply permanent colour on fine silver and non precious metals through the application of vitreous enamel.
Enamelling is one of the few techniques of colour application on metals. Enamel, the process of fusing glass to metal, is the means of using a rich and diverse medium to convey a personal response to ideas and visual experiences. Students will learn and explore various approaches using a range of textures and lustres. Students will be encouraged to produce work of their own design and will be asked to bring examples of drawings at the beginning of the project to be developed during course. After initial sampling, students will have the opportunity to respond to the process of enamelling with the production of their own design. Students will make at least one of the following as a final piece: brooch, pendant or small tiles suitable for framing.
