Set amidst picturesque parklands close to the Yarra River and only a few kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD, the heritage listed Fairfield campus of NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE), facilitates hands on learning in the following areas:
* Performing Arts (Music and Drama)
* Visual Arts (Photography and Illustration)
* Jewellery
* Horticulture
* Animal studies
* Science
Don’t forget to say hello to the peacocks roaming the grounds!
Formerly, home to the Infectious Diseases Hospital (closed in 1996), NMIT took over the grounds in 2004 and moved its Horticulture program from Parkville across, making it NMIT’s second largest campus (over 2,000 students).
Yarra House, formerly the residential nurses' quarters for the hospital, has now been completely renovated and transformed to provide NMIT's first on-campus student accommodation. For more details visit www.yarrahouse.com.au or download a flyer.
There is plenty going on across campus with regular exhibitions at the Building B Gallery Space, concerts at Yarra Edge Music Centre, plant sales at the Nursery, food on offer at the cafeteria and great resources at the library.
