This program enables current employed endorsed enrolled nurses (EEN's) to obtain advanced knowledge and practice to further their nursing career.
Students may select specific electives to enable them to pursue employment in advanced health care environments.
Please note, all particpants will be required to undertake clinical placement outside standard work hours and in areas relevant to their chosen area of speciality. The individual student and/or the facility manager will be responsible for organising the clinical placement rotation and experience if required.
Some participants undertaking the Advanced Diploma to specialise in an area of nursing they are currently working in may be able to undertake the clinical hours within work time. For example, if a student works in mental health and does the Advanced Diploma with mental health electives they may be able to do the clinical placement in work time if this is suitable to the facility. If students are undertaking the qualification to specialise in an area they do not currently work in they will be required to undertake the clinical placement in a supervised capacity (this would need to be negotiated with the nurse unit manager).
Each elective unit has 20 hours clinical placement time as one of the assessments. You will be required to participate in a range of activities as part of the 20 hour requirement. There are 7 units in the Advanced Diploma - six of the units require 20 hours of clinical placement (1 core and 5 electives) therefore, there are 120 hours in total to successfully complete the Advanced Diploma.
For example, in the cardiovascular elective unit you may be required to participate in the set up for insertion of an arterial line and central line. Participation of these activities would be signed off by your mentor.
Please note: When students have confirmed their elective units and enrolled there will be individual negotiation regarding the wards/areas you will be required to undertake the clinical placement component of the course.
