Deakin's Bachelor of Biomedical Science concerns the molecular and cellular basis of normal human biology and disease processes. The course is a vibrant, relevant and topical program and is delivered through a partnership between the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Health, Medicine, Nursing and Behavioural Sciences. This multidisciplinary approach enables you to learn about your chosen fields of study from both scientific and health perspectives.
You can study major sequences in areas of Health Science, Nutrition and Exercise Science, Cell and Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. The course comprises core areas of study in a broad range of topics including Cells, Genes and Diversity, Biochemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Biochemical Metabolism, Molecular Basis of Disease and Medical Microbiology and Immunology.
You will also complete a professional practice unit involving an experiential learning component which will allow you to apply and consolidate knowledge gained in your course, experience workplace culture and workplaces practices, explore career options and develop a professional network.
1.Students must formally undertake Enrolment on or before the date prescribed in each year.
2.The University will publish comprehensive and accurate information regarding Course rules and requirements in the University handbooks.
3.Each Faculty will appoint enrolment officers to provide Course advice and information on Course rules and approve courses of study that comply with Course requirements.
4.Students are responsible for:
•planning their pattern of study to meet Course requirements
•ensuring their Enrolment details as recorded by the University are correct
•ensuring they complete their Course within the maximum period for the Course.
5.International students must ensure that their Enrolment complies with their visa requirements.
The Geelong campus at Waurn Ponds is situated approximately eight kilometres west of the city of Geelong.The residences are part of the campus and are set in a picturesque landscape close to all of the University’s main facilities; Peter Thwaites Lecture Theatre (LT1), library, computer labs, dining room and shops. Sporting facilities such as the tennis courts, ovals and the KD Stewart Centre which houses squash courts, basketball courts and a gymnasium are all within a short walking distance from the residences. A daily bus service operates from the University to the city and surrounding areas.
On-campus accommodation is provided for 447 students in a co-educational and multi-cultural environment. Each resident is accommodated in their own furnished bedroom and all buildings have communal lounge areas, kitchens and bathrooms. Laundry facilities are also available.
