It is possible to combine the Engineering degree with an Arts degree. Many students take up the opportunity to add a second degree and double their qualifications in just one extra year.
This combined degree allows students to take any Arts subjects with the Bachelor of Engineering. The Bachelor of Engineering emphasises practical aspects of science and technology while the Bachelor of Arts provides choices which balance and complement the Bachelor of Engineering. It allows a student to continue an interest or strength outside the engineering area, producing engineers with all-round capabilities.
It gives students the opportunity to develop a specialisation in areas that may include:
* languages
* history
* anthropology
* asian studies
* philosophy
* statistics.
The Bachelor of Arts can be under taken with any strand of engineering. Selection of the engineering degree is completed upon enrolment. Note that, although you may have achieved the UAI for the combined degree, students must still achieve the UAI for the stream of engineering they wish to take as part of the combination.
BE/BA students do not need to do any compulsory Arts units. Students will undertake more engineering subjects in the first three years and complete the Bachelor of Arts subjects in the later part of the five-year course.
