About the institution
Aquaculture is the cultivation of resources from the sea and inland waters. It is the world’s fastest growing primary industry.

Cairns campus – first and second year only

Aquaculture includes industries such as fish farming, oyster and pearl cultivation and the production of prawns and freshwater crayfish. It supplies more than 40% of the world’s fish supply. Sustainable aquaculture is essential to providing protein for the world’s growing population and its development is central to preventing overharvest of wild populations and habitat destruction.

This course combines scientific education with hands-on experience with focus on tropical species. Other topics address the process of aquaculture such as feeds and nutrition, genetics, microbiology and pathology, principles of aquaculture, propagation, system design and sustainability.
