This course is designed for tradespeaople who wish to upskill in air-conditioning and gain their Refrigeration Handlers Licence. This licence is awarded through the Australian Refrigeration Council.
Located in North Queensland, the Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE provides vocational education and training to more than 14,700 local, interstate and international students who are enrolled in over 200 training programs ranging from Certificate through to Advanced Diploma level as well as a number of non-accredited programs. Our program offerings include a range of trades, business, health and community, hospitality, retail, tourism and indigenous training programs. Due to its safe and idyllic location, the Institute welcomes a growing number of international students each year who study a range of programs including nursing, aged care, commercial cookery and horticulture.
Covering an area of more than 145,800 square kilometres and incorporating eight local government areas, Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE campuses are located in Townsville, Charters Towers, Ingham, Burdekin, Palm Island, Bowen and Cannonvale with an asset value of $73 million. The Institute employs around 350 full-time equivalent staff and is a significant contributor to the local economy with approximately $27 million flowing through to the Institute's service area each year as a result of its operations. We are currently engaged in the development of a new campus - a $37m project to provide state-of-the-art training facilities for the trades in Townsville.
The Institute serves a diverse range of communities and industries including mining, construction, health, tourism, hospitality and the defence sector. We have established many partnerships with local schools and community organisations as well as strong links with industry and James Cook University.
