About the institution
The carpentry pre-apprenticeship is an intensive training program designed to give trainees the skills and knowledge necessary to be productive onsite.

Trainees work on full size projects of varying degree, in NMIT's specially designed workshops. Successful completion of this certificate will lead the training into Certificate III in General Construction (Carpentry/Framework/Formwork/Finishing) Apprenticeship.

The NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE) Heidelberg Campus, 15 minutes from the CBD, is one of Victoria's major training centres in building trades, electronics and engineering. Heidelberg Campus training facilities simulate real work environments and are popular with students and employers. The robotics simulation facility presents students with a challenge, as do the AutoCAD training centre and the plumbing classrooms equipped with the latest appliances and tools donated by industry. The 'barn' boasts an eight metre roof and 1450 square metre floor space which is used for a variety of training purposes including the construction of full scale relocatable homes.
