This prevocational course offers students the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required for entry in to an apprenticeship in the furnishing industry via multiple pathways including 'free standing' furniture making and 'in-built' furniture making/installation (kitchens and bathrooms etc).
During the course, students develop and apply these skills and knowledge through the completion of practical projects, and other assignments.
The course consists of units of training taken directly from the Certificate III (Apprenticeship) course.

The NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE) Heidelberg Campus, 15 minutes from the CBD, is one of Victoria's major training centres in building trades, electronics and engineering. Heidelberg Campus training facilities simulate real work environments and are popular with students and employers. The robotics simulation facility presents students with a challenge, as do the AutoCAD training centre and the plumbing classrooms equipped with the latest appliances and tools donated by industry. The 'barn' boasts an eight metre roof and 1450 square metre floor space which is used for a variety of training purposes including the construction of full scale relocatable homes.
