This course is for people who work or want to work in a range of residential aged care facilities. You will learn about the aged care sector, how to provide personal care and support for older people and how to interview and communicate with older people within residential facilities. You should be aware that if clinical placement in a public or private hospital or medical facility is part of this course, you may need to undergo occupational screening and be vaccinated against infectious diseases. Your teachers will give you further advice.
You need to be aware that to undertake and successfully complete this course you will be required to have a National Criminal History Record Check. The Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing requires that any person who provides care within an aged care service must have a police check prior to entering a site. As work placement in an aged care service is essential to receive this qualification, learners must have a current National Criminal History Record Check. You will be required to pay $43 (approx) for the screening.
This course requires an application. Applications close Friday, 29th October 2010. Application forms are available from any TAFE NSW college, online at www.tafensw.edu.au, or contact us on 131 870. You will be advised by mail of the outcome of your application.
