Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling

NMIT will give you the skills you need to complete an apprenticeship as a wall and floor tiler.

Tilers lay tiles on internal and external walls and floors to provide finishes that are protective or decorative, or both.


You will like this work if you:



  • have good hand-eye coordination

  • are able to work neatly and accurately.

You will be employed by a wall and floor tiler and train:



  • on-site with your employer

  • off-site at NMIT.

You will gain these skills and knowledge:



  • performing measurements and calculations

  • tiling ceramic, clay, slate, marble, glass, cork, linoleum

  • occupational health and safety

  • use of hand and power tools, including tile-cutting tools

  • cleaning and polishing tiles

  • preparing and applying grout

  • using spirit levels, squares and plumb lines

  • using small plant and equipment

  • operating an elevated work platform

  • tiling decorative mosaics

  • tiling pools and spas

  • installing marble floors.

The building industry is booming so there has never been a better time to find a job as a tiler.
