Under its new legislation, the South East Queensland Councils and Regional Councils will introduce microchipping of cats and dogs at point-of-sale and transfer (by sale or giving away). Brisbane North Institute of TAFE offers a nationally accredited course which covers the knowledge and skills required to implant permanent identification devices (microchips) into dogs and cats.
Successful completion of the course which requires online theoretical assessment and practical assessment will enable the participant to become an Authorised Implanter.
Please note that participants are required to find their own veterinary supervisor and microchip 15 animals (conscious dogs and cats) within 60 days of attending the course in order to be deemed competent.
Please refer to the institution's website for more information on applying for its courses and the entry requirements for specific courses. The institution has also recently introduced online enrolment for its new students. Enrolment forms can also be downloaded from the institute's website.
The Brisbane North Institute of TAFE (BNIT) offers an extensive range of programs from certificates, to diplomas and advanced diplomas. Apprenticeships and traineeships are also available at BNIT, where students can learn and gain qualifications while they work. Short courses to upgrade career skills or develop talents can be accessed through BNIT and TAFE Open Learning.
