This course provides an introduction to the key concepts of research in humanities and social science. It aims to reach a balance between practice (skills) and theory (methodology and rationale). This aim to give students the practical skills students will need to implement different methods of data collection and analysis, as well as an understanding of the underpinning methodologies. An important aim is to foster in students an awareness of the sorts of decisions and compromises that students will have to make at each stage of the research process. Emphasis is placed upon practical difficulties encountered by researchers working in cross-cultural contexts.
