This course aims to provide students with the historical background, current knowledge and skills that assist them to professionally interact with Asian countries in particular East and Southeast Asian countries and peoples. Lectures and tutorials focus on Australia’s major business partner countries and regions of Asia, namely the People’s Republic of China including Taiwan, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Reference is also made to the increasingly significant economic and political relationships between Asian countries, the world powers and Australia. History, as well as social and cultural, political, economic, legal, artistic, and environmental dimensions will be introduced.
