About the institution
This qualification will provide you with the necessary practical skills and knowledge to carry out the role of a surveyor involved in the collection of spatial data related to the set out and monitoring of engineering structures, roads, railways and mining operations. You will learn about the operation of sophisticated surveying equipment and software, including GPS, and the use of this equipment to carry out complex survey projects, including open pit mine operations and the processing of survey data to produce computer aided engineering drawings and mine plans.

This course covers: operation of sophisticated surveying equipment and software for conducting more complex engineering surveys including road design and setout surveys; use of specific surveying software for creating mine and engineering drawings and for solving complex engineering and geodetic computational problems; use of sophisticated GPS equipment for engineering setout and data capture; open pit mine surveying; advanced GIS.
All students will need to buy an industry standard calculator as part of their course requirements. Full details of the specific calculator required will be provided to students at the commencement of classes and should be purchased within the first 3 weeks of semester.
This course may also be studied by off campus learning provided you are employed in an appropriate work place and can have your work certified by a supervising Surveyor.
If offered a place by the TAFE Admissions Centre in the first or second round, your letter will inform you how to enrol. Enrolments normally take place at the campus at which you will be studying.
Please ensure that you don't miss your enrolment session and remember to bring your offer letter with you. If, for some reason, you cannot attend your scheduled enrolment time please contact student administration at the relevant TAFE college.

If you're unable to attend your enrolment, make sure you give authority and make arrangements for someone to enrol for you.

You need to either pay your fees at the time of enrolment or make some allowed arrangement in order to actually enrol at a TAFE college. A minimum payment of $100 is required within two weeks in order to secure your enrolment.
