Doctor of Philosophy

A research degree awarded for a thesis considered to be a substantially original contribution to the subject concerned.
Some coursework may be required (mainly in the form of seminars) but in no case is it a major component. Applicants should normally hold a masters degree or a bachelors degree with firts or high second class honours of the University of Sydney or an equivalent qualification from another university or institution. Minimum period of candidature is 2 years for candidates holding a masters degree or equivalent or 3 years for candidates holding a bachelor's degree with first class or second class honours. Maximum period of candidature is normally 4 years. The first 12 months of candidature is normally on probation.
