The Graduate Certificate in Education Law equips educators and administrators with the knowledge and skills needed to deal confidently, effectively and appropriately with legal issues. Students have the opportunity to develop practical skills to identify possible legal problems before they arise, and to respond effectively when they do. They will also understand better the role of lawyers, when to involve them and how to work most effectively with them.
Graduates of the course will be confident in their ability to develop educational policy within a legal framework. The course examines the general principles and practices of school governance, in state, church-based or independent schools, as relevant. Students will gain an understanding of the various statutory, contractual and common law duties, particularly the duty to take reasonable care, which underpins the educational process. Participants will be challenged to examine critically the obligations and rights of parents, students and colleagues.
This is a restricted programme and only available to students who are accepted into the programme.
Students are required to apply and be approved by the University of New England before they can enrol in units through OUA.
