The Public Policy coursework program has a strong public sector focus and is primarily intended for those who serve, or seek to serve, in government. The courses aim to develop an understanding of the political, social, economic and organisational processes that shape, change and limit public policy programs. Major areas of interest include policy analysis, organisational behaviour, and issues management.o a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

The Master of Arts (Research) is awarded after the submission of a thesis and the optional completion of some units of coursework study. It is expected that the thesis will demonstrate a capacity for original research, critical ability and is satisfactory as regards literary presentation. Candidates conduct research into a specialist area, chosen from the many subjects available in the Faculty of Arts, and consult with a supervisor throughout the course of the candidature. The MA (Research) can be undertaken in a range of subject areas by research and thesis only, or a combination of thesis and coursework, as outlined below. It is not possible to upgrade from an incomplete Master of Arts (Research) degree to higher degree research candidature. The MA (Research) has different admission requirements to both the Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. A thesis on an approved topic is researched and written under the individual supervision of a member of the academic staff. The course may be undertaken full-time (1 - 2 years), or part time (2 - 4 years).
The satisfactory completion of the MA (Research) degree is a qualification for admission to higher degree research candidature.
