About the institution
This weekend is designed to cover the knowledge and skills to safely undertake overnight activities in the snow. The program will include; selection of appropriate equipment, snow conditions and hazards, weather, safety skills and construction of emergency shelters. Ski skills including; side slip, kick turns, open stance telemark turns and basic skating.

Snow shoes, transport from the base of Mt Stirling, course notes and mountain entry will be provided. A Workbook and reading will be sent out prior to the program. This must be completed and returned before the weekend to ensure any knowledge gaps are covered during the weekend. This program is being run in conjunction with Spindrift International. Log book will demonstrate at least 2 overnight snow trips Units from the SRO40206 Certificate IV Outdoor Recreation training package: • SROODR002A Plan outdoor recreation activities • SROOPS002B Plan for minimal impact • SROSKT005B Apply snowcraft skills for day touring • SROSKT008B Apply snowcraft skills for overnight touring • SROOPS006B Use and maintain a temporary or overnight site • SROOPS004B Interpret weather conditions in the field.

Ski skills weekend or similar experience.
