VCAL is a course for people who want to gain a secondary school qualification (years 11 and 12 equivalents), but prefer not to spend the whole day in a classroom. Be supported to work at their own level and pace and meet personal goals. Undertake a range of projects and activities which help develop skills for life and work. VCAL is the perfect pathway into TAFE or getting a job. Each year the VCAL students are involved in projects of their own choosing. In 2007 VCAL students made a short film which was screened as part of Armed and Dangerous at the St Kilda Film Festival. This year students set up their own business with the assistance of mentors, to raise funds for community groups. In VCAL at DNC we can help you create a personalized learning experience. If students have a passion it can create learning activities which will give them credit towards a related certificate. Areas of study are literacy (reading and writing), numeracy (working with numbers), work related skills (getting ready for work), personal development (helping the community), and industry specific skills (nationally recognized training which is also credit towards TAFE course(s). For more information contact the VCAL Coordinator 5348 4479 or education@dnc.com.au.
Students must fill out their enrollment forms and email, fax or bring in to the college with their payment. Fees can be paid by cash, post, cheque, money order, or with their credit card over the phone. Payment by installments can also be arranged. If students need information, advice or special support to attend a course, please make contact with the office. A ramp to the main entrance at the rear of the building leads to the office, hub and classrooms. Most courses are held at the Centre unless otherwise stated. But if they are unsure of any details, call the Centre for more information.
