The Victorian Certificate in Applied Learning (VCAL) programmes at RMIT are planned to lead to a vocational pathway in an area of industry need. If you are successful in VCAL, you may have the opportunity to apply for further study at TAFE or increase your chances of qualifying for employment in the industry area. You will also have been given extensive opportunities to develop your language, maths, work-related skills and people skills. The programme includes workplace and industry experience. RMIT offers vocational-based VCAL programmes in specific industry areas.
You need to have an interest in the industry area chosen, and to have completed Year 10 (for the VCAL intermediate level) or Year 11 (for the VCAL senior level). Adults are welcome to apply. VCAL certificates are awarded by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority. VCAL Intermediate level is a Year 11 programme in the Victorian secondary system. The senior VCAL is a Year 12 qualification.
You will complete a minimum of 1000 hours of work, and study at least 10 units from the four compulsory strands. These units are combinations of accredited VCAL units and modules from accredited VET and further education curriculums.
VCAL programmes are developed to meet the learning needs of each group of students and to establish a learning pathway to the chosen industry.
