The Okines Community House Inc. has been in the making and evolving for the past 16 years. A huge effort over a long period of time from come very dedicated and committed community members. The Okines Community Centre Action Group was formed following a community forum in 1998 and became an Incorporated body in that year. After much lobbying and through a need promoted through the Midway Point Neighbourhood Centre funding for operational and administrative purpose was realised in 2000 through the Department of Health and Human Services. Okines Community Centre Inc. after failing to meet planning approval to establish a neighbourhood house opposite the Dodges Ferry shops a partnership was formed to locate our office and run programs from the Dodges Ferry Football Clubrooms. The name 'Okines' is from the farmhouse that was located near the recreational grounds adjacent to the school. There is still the old fig tree and footings from sheds located at this site.
