University of Sydney offers sustainability scholarships

The University of Sydney is offering scholarships to students from rural or regional backgrounds who want to study issues of climate change and sustainability. The university's Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources is offering the Rural Sustainability Scholarship to rural students who want to complete a three-year Bachelor's degree within the department but who do not have the financial resources to do so.

The Environmental Sustainability Scholarship is a three-year scholarship for students from metropolitan areas with a passion for sustainability in natural and agricultural systems who wish to study the Bachelor of Environmental Systems.

Professor Mark Adams, Dean of the Faculty, said: "We now have to consider food security, water security and carbon emissions as part of Australia's business proposition.

"We are committed to helping the sector move towards sustainable practice and to bearing some of the costs required to successfully make this transition."

The University of Sydney said the scholarships underline the importance of developing sustainable practices in Australia.
