Melbourne-based Kangan TAFE is offering its qualifications overseas in India through Indian institutions, according to a report in the Australian.
Kangan TAFE plans to offer the vocational courses in the state of Maharashtra, as an alternative to students travelling to Australia for their education. India's government has a target to train 500 million people by 2022, and Maharashtra's share of this goal is 50 million.
Kangan CEO Ray Griffiths told the newspaper: "It is an enormous task ahead and we respect that the Indian education system is outstanding, but their vocational education system, they believe, can be value added by some elements from Australia."
The TAFE plans to offer a diploma of automotive technology and diploma of aircraft maintenance engineering. Kangan hopes to expand this to the diploma of nursing and English courses in the future.
According to The Australian, the Victorian government has backed the plan with $300,000 to fund training for 325 vocational trainers in Maharashtra.
