Applying to Australian universities

You can apply for your education in Australia through an education agent, directly to an Australian university or during an education fair.

Your education path

You can apply for your education in Australia through an education agent, directly to an Australian university or during an education fair. You will not need to pay any fees to the education agent or representative at the education fair as the agent will receive a commission from the university.

If you are planning to pursue a professional career such as Accounting, Law or Medicine, find out if the regulatory authority in your home country recognises the qualifications and credentials issued from the Australian university where you plan to study.

Overseas students should also consider applying for a diploma or advanced diploma at a Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institution as an alternative to a degree course. Most TAFE institutions have agreements with Australian universities to allow international students pursuing higher education after completing a TAFE programme.

If you are planning to pursue a postgraduate education after your first degree, most Australian universities accept direct applications for postgraduate applications. There are also specialised scholarships that are available for international students planning to pursue postgraduate education in Australia.

Letter of Offer

When your university application has been approved, you will receive a letter of offer (LOO) from either the education agent or the university. You will be given a grace period to accept the offer, and make payment for the necessary fees. If you do not accept your offer or make the payment within the grace period, your offer will lapse.

Conditional offer

Some universities may offer you a conditional offer for your choice of university course, in the form of a foundation or bridging programme. A foundation course will provide you with tertiary training that is aligned with a university curriculum and prepares you for university education when you have completed the foundation programme.

You may also receive a LOO, with conditions such as requiring you to complete a written test, English language proficiency test or an interview.

Information session

Your education agent may hold an information session prior to your departure for Australia, where you will be briefed on the administrative matters and important dates for enrolment when you are in Australia.

For those who apply directly with the university, you will be informed of an information session during your enrolment session.
