Hospitality food safety

Hospitality and tourism is one of Australia’s largest economic stimulants. Australia also boosts a vibrant dining scene with its renowned chefs, fresh produce and new world wines production.

An important factor in Australia’s success in owning a world-class hospitality and tourism sector can be attributed to its stringent food safety and occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations.

Ensuring food safety

The implementation of food safety programs in food and beverage providers is a prerequisite to ensure the safety of hospitality staff and consumers.

If you or your staff serve food, whether this is in a restaurant, club, residential home or pub, you will need food hygeine certificates.

The Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points  (HACCP) is a widely recognised qualification and training programme within the hospitality and food industries that is accepted by the Australia New Zealand Food Authority (ANZFA) for food and beverages safety across all Australian states and territories. Also a nationally recognised training programme which delivers the food safety competencies required for the safe handling of food, the HACCP food safety course allows owners, kitchen crews and food suppliers to develop and implement a food safety programme in their businesses and kitchens.

CFT Food Safety Training, a Registered Training Organisation, also delivers online courses in Safe Food Handling, Food Handlers’ Certificate and Food Safety Supervisor courses.

Outcomes of Food Safety & Food Handling courses

The main objectives of food safety and food handling courses are to allow food handlers and kitchen staff to identify and follow hygiene procedures in food handling and the facilities in which the food are prepared; prevent hazards that will create food poisoning, and inculcate the proper handling of food.

These food safety and food handling courses will also include a component of OHS units to ensure that food handlers are aware of the best practices when it comes to using certain heavy-duty equipment or occupational hazards.
