International students: Studying beauty therapy in Australia

Beauty therapy and grooming courses are considered Vocational Education Training (VET) courses where students learn in a stimulated training environment and student clinics or salons. Such practical training will enable students to develop the technical skills, business management and confidence in dealing with future clients and customers.

How to study in Australia?

The Australian Qualifications Training framework (AQTF) governs the VET of beauty therapy and grooming courses offered by private colleges within Australia.

It is critical to apply to only beauty colleges and schools that are registered with a valid CRICOS Provider Registration number. Even if a beauty school offers a range of beauty and grooming courses, there may only be a handful of courses that are available to international students.

Beauty therapy and grooming courses for international students may span from a month to two years. Short courses lasting for under three months may not require a student visa, while a certificate I to advanced diploma course can take from four months to 36 months to complete respectively.

A prerequisite in spoken and written English language is important, as you will need to understand instructions of the products and machines used. Most beauty therapy and beauty school require an administrative fee from its students to guarantee a placement in the beauty therapy course.
