University open days for international students

As an international student, attending university open days in Australia will involve overseas travel, making such a trip expensive and time-consuming. However, most Australian universities also hold roadshows and open days in several cities outside of Australia prior to the new academic year for those who want to study in Australia.

This is a great chance to find out more information about the institution, the area you would be moving to and life in Australia. It's also a good opportunity to check out the special tie-ups with freight companies, housing agents and bank loans.

Selected universities in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth have ownership of IDP Australia, an education representative operating in more than 29 countries. During such open days or education fairs, representatives from several universities will come together over a period of three days or a week, to meet with prospective students.

Some Australian universities offer scholarships to high performing international students or advanced credit on the spot.

Most universities also waive the application fees when you apply for your university programme at the open day, and you will also have your copies of academic transcripts certified and notarised by IDP. The education agent will then submit your application and academic transcripts to the university for processing.

During the open day, you can apply to all the universities that fall in your shortlist, as the university placements are highly competitive and you want to have a fallback if you do not get your first choice. If you have applied through an education agent or representative, you are to follow-up with the agent directly instead of the international students unit of the university.

If you plan to apply directly to the university, you would have to apply via an online enrolment form, and submit your notarised academic transcripts via mail, email or fax. An application fee may apply.
