WEA Adult Learning

WEA learning stands for the Worker’s Educational Association, and was founded in 1913 to provide adult learning. The WEA is Australia’s largest non government provider of education for adults, with classes provided to anyone over 15 years of age.

Whilst WEA learning was once available in every state in Australia, it now only operates in New South Wales and South Australia, with locations established in Adelaide, Newcastle, Sydney and Wollongong. WEA learning is accredited as a Registered Training Organisation or RTO, meaning that all adult education provided there is of a high standard.

Courses available

There is a cornucopia of short courses provided at WEA learning centres, with topics to suit most areas of interest. Most courses do not have prerequisites or examinations, meaning they are accessible to all kinds of skill levels. Course lengths vary widely, with some taking just a few hours, to some being provided over many weeks.

Classes are available for adult education in IT and business, as well as language classes, from French, to German, to Italian. Some WEA learning centres also offer international tours to different countries to put the languages learnt into practice.

A range of classes on new hobbies are also available, from art and photography to food wine and coffee appreciation classes. More practical adult learning is also provided, with gardening and cooking classes available at some WEA learning centres too.

WEA centres also provide a more in depth service to those who require basic educational skills for entering the workforce, with numeracy and literacy classes, as well as Certificate level training in retail, hospitality, and general education.

How to enrol

Joining a WEA learning centre is easy, simply by searching online for the nearest centre, taking a look at their list of adult education classes available, and sending an online enquiry for more information.
