Overview of Beauty
Beauty courses will allow you to perform many treatments and establish a successful beauty therapy career. Most beauty therapy courses are nationally recognised one-year long diplomas or certificates and focus on a specific area of beauty therapy. A career in beauty therapy can be very varied as you will be performing a wide range of treatments to a large clientele.
Studying Beauty
Beauty training can take the form of makeup courses, waxing courses, aromatherapy courses, nail training, body treatment and facial treatment courses. Most courses in beauty will combine beauty training with customer service, cash handling and sales skills, which will increase your employability. |
Most people interested in beauty courses will get a one-year full-time beauty diploma or beauty certificate from beauty therapy schools or a beauty therapy college, such as Certificates in Make-Up Artistry, Nail Technology or Beauty Therapy. These courses focus on specific issues of beauty treatments, such as manicures, pedicures, nail art, massage advantages, basic anatomy, skin issues, among others.
A lot of these courses are offered either on-campus or online via correspondence and are nationally recognised qualifications that will be preferred by employers.
Careers in Beauty
There are many different things you can do within the beauty industry. Common beauty workplaces include beauty salons, beauty shops, retail and cosmetic stores. Depending on your beauty training, you can go into nail technology, facial or body treatment, make up and skin care, or more complex treatments, such as IPL laser hair removal or waxing. For those that want the freedom of being your own boss, there is also the opportunity to open and own your own beauty salon.
Skills needed in Beauty
Beauty training and those working in beauty will need strong communication and customer service skills as they will be dealing with a lot of clients on a daily basis. Being attentive to detail and having a creative side will also be useful for those interested in beauty therapy courses.
