Overview of Computer Programming
Computer programming is extremely specialised, often studied in a computer science degree program where you will learn how to design, develop and maintain software systems.
A computer programming degree will ensure that you will be well equipped for computer programming jobs and you can learn this specialisation at a number of institutions as a computer programming degree, certificate or diploma. |
Studying Computer Programming
If you study a computer science degree then you will learn computer programming coding techniques and how to use computer programming software. Students who study this course often learn how to readily adapt to the rapidly changing IT environment.
Other courses that you can study include a bachelor of software engineering or a diploma or certificate in information technology.
Generally, the pre-requisites to learn computer programming at a university are a successful completion of year 12 or equivalent and a maths component, either mathematical methods and/or specialist maths.
Careers in Computer Programming
As a graduate of a computer programming course, you will find that you are in a great position for a computer programming job.
You will be able to work in software development, systems architecture, web systems, database development, networking, testing and quality assurance and of course, project management.
Often you will be able to find work at commercial organisations, IT and software development companies and government departments.
Skills needed in Computer Programming
Having a problem solving and logical mind are extremely useful if you want to learn computer programming. Patience and the ability to learn new computer coding languages are also good attributes to have.
Of course, an interest in developing software is not only important but your creativity also plays a large part as you always have to be able to design and implement a good workable solution.
