Studying Dance
For those looking to pursue a career in dance, you can study dance as a diploma, degree or certificate at an institution that specialises in or offers these particular courses.
A bachelor of dance performance or a certificate in dance are offered at some universities, however a performing arts school or dance academy such as the Australian Dance Institute are also excellent places to study.
VET courses are available, often at a dance college, where you have the opportunity to study an accredited course in dance performance. Students are able to express their creativity and talent in areas such as: classical ballet, jazz and tap dance. Often there are courses for students to learn to become dance teachers as well.
The general entry requirements for a dance course at one of these institutes include: a successful completion of year 12 or equivalent, an audition, an interview and current medical reports.

By studying dance, you can become a successful performing artist, a choreographer or teacher. Dance lessons and dance courses are great for teaching students the essentials in order to be at the standard required for this competitive environment.
Skills needed in Dance
To become a dancer, you need to be extremely coordinated, creative, musically aware and physically fit. Most importantly though, you must have a passion for dance.
