Overview of Fine Arts

There are many fine arts courses available to potential students who are interested in this area of study. You can study a fine arts course at a university, art institute or art college.

As a graduate of fine arts, you will develop studio skills and research methods in the contemporary world of art. There is no doubt that you will be well equipped for a career in the visual arts field.

Studying Fine Arts

You can study a fine arts degree, fine art graduate certificate, fine art graduate diploma or master of fine art. Often within the program, you will cover art theory and may touch on jewellery and small objects, painting, print media and sculpture.

Entry requirements for a fine art degree are usually a successful completion of year 12 or equivalent and the submission of a folio.

If you study a fine art postgraduate program such as the master of fine art, institutions require completion of a degree in art or another approved degree before being accepted.

The postgraduate programs are for those who want to extend their careers as producers, writers and creators of film or television. If you want to build a career in the film and media industries, then this is definitely a good path to study.

Careers in Fine Arts

Graduates can pursue a variety of careers, including as an artist or arts administrator, as a craftsperson, graphic designer, jeweller, museum curator, photographer, or set designer.

By studying a postgraduate program, students will be able to actively practice in the industry and develop a somewhat creative approach to building a career in the film and media industries.

Skills needed in Fine Arts

If you are interested in arts, in particular visual arts, and you are creatively minded, then a qualification in fine artswill be suitable for you. Having some sort of art folio will benefit your chances in applying for a fine arts degree or postgraduate program.
