Piano Overview of Music

By studying music, you will gain a broad understanding of the music industry. Generally you can study music classes, a music degree, short course or diploma.

Music education is great as you will be able to perform and practice your skills whilst studying and could lead to becoming a professional artist in this highly competitive and rewarding industry.

Studying Music

Often offered as a degree, double degree or diploma, popular programs that students often study include: a bachelor of applied music, a bachelor of arts - music industry or an advanced diploma of music.

Generally, a music course equips students so that they are ready to find employment in the music industry. This can be in the areas of music teaching, music performing or sound engineering.

The entry requirements for a music course often include an audition, an interview and performance of a special admissions test which is equivalent to the AGMED Grade 7 performance.

Of course, if you want to learn music for your leisure, then there are often musical instrument classes, singing classes or other short courses available at many recreational centres.

Careers in Music

The types of jobs in the music industry are really competitive and quite difficult to obtain. However, careers in music are not limited to becoming a musician.

After studying a music course, you could pursue a career as an arts administrator, music therapist, sound technician, a music teacher, or a technical and further education lecturer. The music industry also needs managers and marketers to work closely with musicians.

Skills needed in Music

If you want to become a musician, then you need to be very dedicated and disciplined as practicing is a large part of keeping your skills finely tuned. A creative mind and passion for music are also essential.
