Studying Music, Dance and Drama
Courses are provided as degrees, diplomas, workshops or short courses at different institutions such as music, dance and drama academies. An average diploma or degree in music, acting, creative arts, entertainment, music theatre or drama will find a student studying for approximately three to four years.
Entry requirements often consist of an audition, interview or if a music course is applied for, a theory test may also be a requirement as well.
Dance academies, drama academies and performing arts colleges have a range of different classes for students who want to develop their talent into a career and for those who enjoy the performing arts as a hobby.
These can include musical theatre classes, acting courses, acting workshops, dancing workshops, singing workshops, and drama courses.
Careers in Music, Dance and Drama
Besides becoming a dancer or actor, a student could pursue a career in film, radio and television while a music degree could lead to jobs in recording, publishing, advertising, multimedia, teaching as well as performance.
Becoming a music or singing teacher, or teaching dance or drama at secondary schools, community groups and private studios is another alternative career path.
Of course if you just want to pursue your passion, then a short course may be more appealing and then there are plenty of workshops in acting, singing lessons, dancing as well as music lessons for those wanting to learn to play an instrument such as the piano or guitar.
Skills in Music, Dance and Drama
If you are intending to pursue music, dance or drama as a career, a higher education institution will require you to prove your talent and determination before allowing you to study. On the other hand, if you are only interested in staying an amateur, there are a wide range of courses and classes available that require only a degree of enthusiasm.
