Overview of Retail Management Retail management courses will help you achieve a successful retail career in a leadership role as a manager.
Retail management training is usually in the form of short one-year nationally recognised courses that will allow you to enter the retail industry in a management position, such as store managers, department managers or merchandise managers. |
Studying Retail Management
The most common retail management course is a Retail Management Certificate, a six-month to one-year nationally recognised retail management training course that focuses on the management of merchandise and staff members, as well as sales and human resources basics and working environment styles. This retail management course can be done either at a retail management college or online.
Careers in Retail Management
Retail management courses will allow you to go into the retail industry and, usually, directly enter in a middle- to upper-management level, instead of just as front-line sales staff. Retail management training will be useful for those managing either a small retail outlet as a store manager or a department within a larger retail outlet as a department manager, as well as those in suppliers or warehouses as merchandise or shift managers.
Skills needed in Retail Management
You will need strong leadership skills, as you will most likely be in charge of and held responsible for sales teams and large amounts of stock or merchandise. You might also be involved in the occasional sales transactions and should have good customer service and communication skills.
