Studying Urban Planning
While it is possible to get a job within town planning without a degree, it is becoming more and more important to obtain tertiary education to be employed.
Qualifications in planning are available as a town or urban planning degree, such as a Bachelor of Town Planning. An urban planning course is usually four years in duration.
It is highly recommended to get work experience while studying urban planning in order to increase your chances of landing a job once you finish your course.
Postgraduate study is also available in town or urban planning, as an urban planning masters course, although not necessary to get a job.

Skills needed in Urban Planning
Communication skills are very important, as planners must effectively discuss new projects with a wide range of people, from the uninformed to the experts.
Town planners must also be logical, as much of their work involves problem solving and an interest in social issues is also beneficial.
